In 2009, a nationwide signature campaign was initiated to demand the removal of individuals who, after abandoning their traditions and culture, converted to Christianity or Islam and were benefiting from reservations intended for Scheduled Tribes. The goal was to protect the rights of genuine tribal communities. This campaign garnered support from 2.8 million people within the tribal community. On January 18, 2010, a delegation from the Janjati Suraksha Manch presented a memorandum containing these 2.8 million signatures to the then President, Mrs. Pratibha Devi Singh Patil, urging her to amend the order issued in 1950. To raise the demand for De-listing in Parliament, the Janjati Suraksha Manch launched an MP Contact Campaign (Saansad Sampark Abhiyaan) from 20 March, 2022, to 31 March, 2022. Under this campaign, the Janjati Suraksha Manch personally contacted 450 out of the total 788 Members of Parliament from the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. The campaign was conducted in two phases.
The tribal community is agitated over the demand for De-listing. In response to the call from the Janjati Suraksha Manch, more than 15 lakh men and women from 309 tribal communities organized district rallies across 221 out of the 250 tribal-majority districts in the country. In the All India Workshop organized in Raipur on 5-7 April 2024, a pledge was taken to protect Swadharma and get De-listing done. Also, various legal aspects related to De-listing were discussed in the presence of legal experts.
By the time of the meeting in Raipur in April 2024, the Janjati Suraksha Manch had sent 5 lakhs postcards to the Honorable Prime Minister from across the country. It was also decided to take the movement to Delhi.
